According to our resident acupuncturist, Katerina Pozzi Baratta, MSOM, Acupuncture is a treatment method in which a practitioner uses tiny sterile needles on specific points in order to influence the Qi dynamic throughout the body.

Qi (pronounced “chee”) is a word used to described the life force that flows through every living thing.

Acupuncture is based on the theory that there are meridians, or energetic channels, all over the body which act as pathways for Qi to flow. Qi should be fairly balanced in a healthy person, but in reality everyone has areas in which Qi is relatively stronger and others in which it is weaker.

Acupuncture treatments aim to restore balance in the channels to bring the person as a whole into a healthier and more vibrant state of being.

A classic Chinese principle is that when Qi flows, there is no pain, when Qi is stuck, it causes pain. This pain can be both physical or emotional.

Through the stimulation of specific points and channels on the body, acupuncture boosts deficiencies, reduces excess, and removes blockages in the channels so Qi can flow better and the body can heal itself naturally.

When administered by a licensed acupuncturist, acupuncture is very safe and a highly effective treatment choice for a variety of conditions, including:

  • Fertility
  • Menstrual irregularities and pain
  • Morning sickness
  • Dermatological conditions
  • Musculoskeletal pain
  • Digestive issues
  • Respiratory conditions
  • Addiction
  • Emotional problems
  • and more

But while acupuncture may be the most famous form of Chinese medicine, it is far from the only one!

Chinese medicine treatments often include a lot of other modalities as well, including herbal medicine, bodywork, cupping, moxabustion, qigong, nutrition & lifestyle counseling, and more.

IV Medicine Therapy

Intravenous (IV) medicine therapy is micronutrients found in healthy foods delivered right to your cells. IV nutrient therapy can be an effective treatment alone or in addition to a comprehensive health plan. Vitamin and mineral infusions directly into the blood strengthen the immune system, enhance the body’s response to stress and fatigue, support cognitive function, and improve energy levels.

IV therapy is one of the most effective treatments to reduce the duration and severity of colds and the flu. And ask us how IV nutrient therapy can improve your athletic performance and give you an extra edge, whether beginning a new exercise routine to improve your health or undergoing intense physical training.

Comprehensive Allergy and Sensitivity

We use a form of electro-acupuncture testing to measure an individual’s change in skin resistance when exposed to potential allergens or sensitivities. She believes it to be more clinically accurate than other types of testing and recommends it for patients who have been diagnosed with autoimmune diseases like fibromyalgia, hypothyroidism, and Cushing’s syndrome as well as for patients who have more obvious allergy symptoms. It is often very useful in identifying food sensitivities in people with skin and gastrointestinal disorders. It is non-invasive and painless, which makes it very useful in the testing of children, especially infants with colic and eczema.

Our treatment approach will vary based on individual’s needs but we do focuses on diet, stress reduction, sleep and herbs as main components of treatment plans.

AromaTouch Therapy

What is AromaTouch Therapy?

The AromaTouch Technique is a new essential oil application method that was developed by Dr. David K. Hill, one of the leading experts on the use of essential oils for medicinal benefit. In AromaTouch Therapy, there is a series of 8 different essential oils applied to the body using simple hand techniques. Because essential oils contain a variety of different healing properties, each oil used in the AromaTouch Technique was selected specifically for its individual therapeutic benefit and aroma.

What are essential Oils and what benefits can they provide?

Essential oils embody the regenerating, oxygenating and immune-strengthening properties of plants. They are so small in size that they can quickly penetrate the skin. In fact, they can affect every cell in the body within 20 minutes of application. Essential oils are powerful antioxidants, and are also antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-parasitic, anti-viral, antiseptic and anti-tumor.

Essential oils are distilled from plants (including parts such as the seeds, bark, leaves, stems, roots, flowers and fruit). One of the factors that determines the purity and therapeutic value of an oil is its chemical constituents. There are hundreds of these constituents in plants, each one with its own individual healing properties. As we begin to learn the power of essential oils in the realm of holistic health, it is important that we understand the necessity of using only pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils. Not only will this ensure that the oils we are using contain the plant’s natural chemical constituents needed to facilitate healing, but will also provide assurance that the oils don’t contain any potentially toxic manufactured chemicals or additives.

Why get AromaTouch Therapy?

All of us experience things in our daily lives that can negatively influence our overall well-being, whether that be on a physical or emotional level. These disruptions can cause an imbalance in homeostasis, which is the natural balance of our health and body systems. This technique was specifically developed to address four major systemic constants: stress, toxic insult, inflammatory response, and autonomic imbalance. Thus, the AromaTouch Technique works to minimize the impact and potentially harmful effects of these factors while restoring homeostasis within the body.

If you are interested in receiving AromaTouch Therapy or learning more about this technique, call the clinic today to schedule an appointment with Dr. Stephanie Auerbach.

Cardiovascular Disease Screening

Have you ever wondered how old your blood vessels are? Getting your Vascular Age results is one of the best ways to know if you are at risk today so that you can prevent heart disease in the future. Thickening of the walls of our blood vessels is a normal process of aging. Premature thickening is one of the first signs of cardiovascular disease and is an independent risk factor to predict the lifetime occurrence of a heart attack or stroke.  As part of your cardiovascular work up, we run over 50 independent blood makers that assess a lipid standard panel as well as lipid particle size and count, cholesterol production and absorption, general and specific inflammation, genetic risk factors, diabetes risk, liver function, kidney function and hormone balance.
What is CIMT Testing ↓

Carotid IM Thickness (CIMT) testing is a completely non-invasive, simple ultrasound performed by Dr. Seth Burrell. Your health history may indicate the need for a full cardiac auscultation (assessment of heart sounds) and a measurement of jugular venous pressure at the time of the procedure.

After the test, you will receive a full report including:

  • Your “Vascular Age” and cardiovascular risk profile
  • Reporting of carotid plaques, if present
  • Report of pathology of the thyroid gland if present
  • Recommendations on how to reduce your risk
Why is it so useful? ↓

Prevention: a new cardiovascular test to effectively and efficiently identify asymptomatic cardiovascular disease.
Prediction: predicts the lifetime risk of heart attack and stroke better than traditional risk factors such as cholesterol.
Visualization: you can actually see the plaque! This is the most efficient and cost-effective way to actually see plaque in the body.

Who should get a Vascular Age Test? ↓

If you have one or more of the following, testing is highly recommended:

  • Family history of heart disease and/or stroke
  • Overweight, obesity and/or a sedentary lifestyle
  • Tobacco user or a history of tobacco use
  • High blood pressure
  • High LDL cholesterol
  • Low HDL cholesterol
  • Elevated triglycerides
  • Metabolic Syndrome
  • Diabetes

The carotid arteries are like “windows” into the coronary arteries: vascular age testing can predict the the future incidence of stroke or heart attack. But remember: carotid arterial wall thickness is reversible!
